We shouldn’t equate the concepts of ‘conservative’ and ‘reactionary’. Conservatives are actually very different in their preferences. There are revolutionary conservatives, social conservatives, liberal conservatives, loyalist conservatives, fascist conservatives and rightist conservatives.
